Son of God or Son of Man   by  Ansarul Haque.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Say: He is Allah, the One and Only. Allah, the Eternal, Absolute; He begetteth not, nor is He begotten; and there is none like unto Him. (Surah Al-Ikhlas).

"They say: Allah has taken a son. Glorified be He! He has no needs! His is all that is in the heavens and that is in the earth. You have no warrant for this, do you say regarding Allah that which you know not?" The noble Qur'an, Surah Yunus(10):68.

God exists forever. He is Almighty. He is the Existence at the Beginning & at the End. He is above all human needs and weaknesses. None can be His alike. Therefore none can beget Him and He can beget none. None can have any share with Him in administering the universe created by Him. He is the Single and Supreme authority & power.

God created Jesus in the womb of Mary the virgin without the need of any father. It was a special creation and God is capable enough to do whatever He likes.

Since Jesus was created at the order of God without any father, common Christian people think that he is the son of God. But this concept is blasphemous and disgraceful for God as He is above all human instincts and needs, can't have issue like human.

In Bible we see in Matthew 3:17, when Jesus was baptized by John: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."

Here we cannot accept the word "son" literally, because the Bible also refers to many prophets and other people as sons and children of God.

In ancient times people used to say the pious men or prophets as Son of God. For that reason in the Bible the prophets and the chosen men of God or the God-fearing people, were mentioned as Son of God.

Jesus never claimed him-self to be the begotten Son of God in the Bible.

We find in the Old Testament, Exodus: 4:22, 23

And you must say to Pharaoh, This is what Jehovah has said: Israel is my son, my first born (the whole Israeli community ) . And I say to you: Send my son away that he may serve me. But should you refuse to send him away, here I am killing your son, your first born.

Here we see that the whole Israeli community was mentioned as the son of God.

In Old Testament: II Samuel 7:13-14 it is seen: He ( Solomon) is the one that will build a house for my name, and I shall certainly establish the throne of his kingdom firmly to time indefinite. I my-self shall become his father, and he him-self will become my son . When he does wrong I will also reprove him with the rod of men and with the strokes of the sons of Adam.

Or I Chronicles 22:10

" He [Solomon] shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever. I will be his father and he shall be My son ."

Here Solomon is mentioned as Son of God .

At first we see that Jacob (Israel) is His firstborn son , and then in II Samuel 7:13-14 David His son and again in I Chronicles 22:10.Solomon as His son.

It will be confusing if we read Jeremiah 31:9: "I am a father to Israel and Ephraim is my firstborn. " In Exodus 4:22 just now, Israel was called the first born & Ephraim is also called the firstborn.

Who is the real firstborn then: Israel or Ephraim? Can the Christian brothers answer to it? Has it any answer?

Then how it can be said that Jesus was the only begotten son of God!

Long before Jesus was born, God said to David (Psalms 2:7): "I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me [David]: 'Thou art my son; this day have I begotten thee."'

So David is also God's begotten son.

The meaning of "Son of God" is not therefore literal but metaphorical. It can be anyone who is beloved by God.

Jesus also said to his disciples that God is not only his Father but also your Father (Father of all his disciples ).

(Matthew 5:45, 48). "That ye may be the children of your Father" and "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Even common people can be children of God.

We can see in many biblical passages that the phrase "Son of God" signifies love and affection and nearness to God, and that it is not to be applied to Jesus alone.

We can see sons and daughters of God in: II Corinthians 6:18: "And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty."

When we read Deuteronomy, 14:1, we can find: "Ye are the children of the Lord your God."

From above it is understood that even the common Israeli people can be children of God'.

In view of these and other passages in the Bible, there is no reason why Jesus should be regarded as the only Son of God in a literal or unique sense. But as Jesus had no father, common people think him as the Son of God, which has no reason at all.

Jesus had no father therefore he was son of God, if this be true then we must also consider Adam as a Son of God, for he had no father or mother.

In Luke 3:38, it is said "...Seth, who was the son of Adam, who was the Son of God."

In Hebrews 7:3.we find "Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually."

He was (in Hebrews 7:1): "Melchisedec, the king of Salem, priest of the Most high God, who met Abraham."

He is more unique than Jesus or Adam. Then why is he not considered a Son of God or God Himself?

The answer is unknown to the Christian community as well as to the priests & Bishops of the churches who call Jesus as the Son of God.

Jesus (pbuh) was not Son of God but son of Mary & a Monotheist prophet and a Servant of God.

The Muslims call him Jesus, the son of Mary, which is very correct.

No one can deny this. Yes, it is simple and nobody can say this is to be wrong.

Muslims do not differ with Christians in the fact that Jesus (pbuh) was indeed born miraculously without a human father. Muslims only differ with Christians in the Christian's claim that Jesus (pbuh) must have a father. Trinitarians believe that if he has no human father then his father must be God. Muslims believe that he had no father whatsoever , and this was the essence of his miraculous birth.

Jesus in The Bible as we find as many as 81 times called himself as the Son of man' and refused to be called as Son of God.

We can see in Luke 4:41. "And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying: 'Thou art Christ, the Son of God. And he, rebuking them, he would not permit them to speak, for they knew that he was Christ."

It is very clear here that Jesus refused to be called as the Son of God.

He also refused such a designation in Luke 9:20-21, and told his disciples not to refer to him that way. "Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said: 'this is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world."

Jesus is also called a prophet in John 7:40;

Therefore some of the crowd that heard this word began saying: This is for a certainly The prophet.

.

And the number of the sons of Israel must become like the grains of the sand of the sea that cannot be measured or numbered. And it must occur that in the place in which it should be said to them You men are not my people,' It will be said to them, The sons of the living God.(Old Testament, Hosea: 1: 10)

Here we can see that the whole Israeli community was called as the Son of God. Then how can we say that Jesus was the only begotten Son?

The Jew community called them-selves as the Children of God as we see in John 8 : 41  They said to him,  We were not born from fornication ; we have one father, God.

Therefore Son of God actually meant for the chosen men / man, prophets and some times it meant for the whole people who followed the path of God.

Blessed are the peace makers for they shall be called the children of God.  (Matthew 5: 9).

That you may prove your-selves sons of your Father who is in the heaven, since He makes His sun rise upon wicked people and good and makes it rain upon righteous people and unrighteous  (Matthew 5: 45).

You must accordingly be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect.

(Matthew 5: 48).

Take good care not to practice your righteousness in front of men in order to be observed by them; otherwise you will have no reward with your Father Who is in the heavens. (Matthew 6: 1).

Not everyone saying to me, Lord, Lord' will enter in to the kingdom of heavens, but the one doing the will of my Father Who is in the heavens will. (Matthew 7: 21).

There are countless verses in the Bible where Jesus said God as his father. To understand what is meant by the reference to "Father" we need only read John 8:42: "Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me."

So the love of God and His prophets is what makes God someone's "father."

Actually no man can be the begotten child of God. If Jesus is called the begotten Son of God in that case you have to imagine that God had coitus with Mary and at the result of that Jesus was born. (God save us & pardon us). This never could be. This is blasphemous absurd & disgraceful concept both for God & Jesus and also for Mary.

In New Testament we see when Jesus was teaching how to pray; he advised : You must pray, then, this way:  Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified. Let your kingdom come. Let your will take place, as in heaven also upon earth. Give us today our bread for this day. For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. Where as if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. (Matthew 1: 9 to 15).

Moreover do not call anyone your father on earth, for one is your Father the heavenly One. (Matthew 23: 9)

Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father. (Matthew 24: 36).

We understand that Jesus called God as not only his Father but also the Father of all his followers and he never mentioned him-self as the only begotten Son of God. He wanted to mean son of God as the followers of God's path.

The persons that are neither his disciple nor any good people (they were unclean spirit), called him Son of God. As we see in Mark: 3: 11.

Even the unclean spirits, whenever they would behold him, would prostrate themselves before him and cry out saying: You are the Son of God.

And when he had cried out with a loud voice, he said: What have I to do with you, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I put you under oath by God not to torment me. Mark 5: 7.

It was a man who was possessed by an unclean spirit.

The same descriptions we find in Luke: 8: 28, 29

It is seen that mostly the common people called Jesus as Son of God idiomatically as at that time it was the custom to address the people of God or the prophets in that manner.

We can find in the Bible that the prophets other than Jesus were also called as the Sons of God.

Look! There is a man being born to you. He him-self will proved to be a rest-ful man, and I shall certainly give him rest from all his enemies all around; for Solomon is what his name will become, and peace and quietness I shall bestrew upon Israel in his days. It is he that will build a house to my name, and he him-self will become a son to me, and I a father to him. And I shall certainly establish the throne of his kingship firmly over Israel to time indefinite.

Sometimes Jesus called the disbelievers as the sons of the Devil , looking unto their immoral works, although they were not actually the begotten children of the Devil. All these are idiomatic words used to make people understood.

As we see in John 8: 35 to 44 - I know that you are Abraham's offspring; but you are seeking to kill me, because my word makes no progress among you. What thing I have seen with my father I speak; and you therefore do the things you have heard from your father. In answer they said to him , Our father is Abraham. Jesus said to them  If you are Abraham's children, do the works of Abraham. But now you are seeking to kill me, you are from your father the Devil.

Obviously neither the Devil nor God is the physical father of any of them. The term "Father" in that day and age was used by the Jews in the same sense that Christians use the word "father" today to address a priest. It was not meant to be taken literally. Otherwise, the Bible would bear witness that every believer in Jesus (pbuh) is also the "physical" son of God.

In Bible we can find that as many as 81 times Jesus called him-self Son of Man. But our Christian brothers cannot give any proper explanation for that. They prefer to call him Son of God, for this reason, among the common or illiterate people the idea of Father & Son gradually developed. It took a long time to grow up this idea. In the time of Jesus or his direct disciples no such idea was born. But the idiomatic words of the Jews, and the spread of Christianity among the Gentiles & Romans, the idea of Son & Father crystallized gradually. At last it came in the Christian belief that the Son is a part, one third of the divinity. It is quite contrary to the teachings of Jesus Christ him-self and also of the ideas of Monotheism.

In Monotheism preached by Jesus and all other prophets, God is the Supreme Power. He is the Creator & Sustainer of the heaven & earth with all its known and unknown forms of life and all that exist. He is the Organizer, the Planner of all its affairs. It is He who gives life & death He has no co-sharer with him in creating or maintaining His creation. This is called the Oneness of God.

In the teachings of Jesus so far found in the Bible we see that Jesus described him-self as a man, a servant of God, a prophet and having no share in Divinity.

Matthew 19: 16 to 19 we see as a prophet Jesus directed the right path to his followers.  Now, look! A certain one came up to him and said,  Teacher, what good must I do in order to get everlasting life? He said to him: Why do you ask me about what is good? One there is that is good. If, though, you want to enter into life, observe the commandments continually. He said to him ,Which one? Jesus said:  Why, you must not murder, you must not commit adultery, you must not steal, you must not bear false witness. Honor your father and your mother, and, you must love your neighbor as yourself.

He never preached, For if you publicly declare that word in your own mouth' that Jesus is Lord, and exercise faith in you heart that God raised him up from the dead, you will be saved.  It was not the teaching of Jesus.

The people those who believed in Jesus in his lifetime did not believe in him being God or Son of God or one of the three as in the doctrine of Trinity. But they believed in him as being a true prophet.

Anglican bishops declare that Jesus is not God

Muslims are not the only ones who believe that Jesus (pbuh) is mortal and not a god. The Jews also believe this, in addition to the very first groups of Christianity such as the Ebonites, the Cerinthians, the Basilidians, the Capocratians, and the Hypisistarians. The Arians, Paulicians and Goths also accepted Jesus (pbuh) as a prophet of God. Even in the modern age there are churches in Asia, in Africa, the Unitarian church, the Jehovah's witnesses, and even the majority of today's Anglican Bishops do not worship Jesus (pbuh) as God.

Now when the chief priests and the Pharisees had heard his illustrations, they took note that he was speaking about them. But although they were seeking to seize him, they feared the crowds, because these held him to be a prophet . (Matthew 21: 45).

This is indeed one of the strongest points of evidence against those who believe in the Divinity of Jesus (incarnation of God) if only they pondered.

In the Bible it is found that Jesus considered him-self as the servant of God who has no part in the Divinity , and the miracles performed by him were as per the order of God.

Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father.(Matthew 24:36)

If the angel Gabriel who used to carry messages from God to the prophet Jesus (The Holy Ghost) would be a part of the Divinity or Jesus the prophet himself would be the same, he would not have uttered the above quoted words.

Therefore, Jesus, the prophet, did not preach the concept of Trinity but it was a wrong concept induced long after him in the religion, which is quite contrary to his Monotheistic theory that Jesus preached.

Jesus said to him: Why do you call me good? Nobody is good, except one, God. (Mark 10: 18)

Jesus said to them: My food is for me to do the will of him that sent me and to finish his work. (John 4: 34)

In order that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He that does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him . (John 5: 23)

I cannot do a single thing of my own initiative; just as I hear, I judge; and the judgment that I render is righteous, because I seek, not my own will, but the will of him that sent me . (John 5: 30, 31)

Because I have come down from heaven to do not my will but the will of Him that sent me. (John 6: 38).

And yet if I do judge, my judgment is truthful, because I am not alone, but

The Father who sent me is with me. (John 8:16)

Therefore Jesus said:  when once you have lifted up the Son of man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing of my own initiative; but just as the Father taught me I speak these things. And he that sent me is with me; he did not abandon me to myself, because I always do the things pleasing to him. As he was speaking these things, many put faith in him. (John 8:28 to 30).

Jesus answered: Neither this man sinned nor his parents, but it was in order that the works of God might be made manifest in his case. We must work the works of him that sent me while it is day, the night is coming when no man can work. (John 9:3, 4)

Jesus answered them: I told you, and yet you do not believe. The works that I am doing in the name of my father, these bear witness about me. (John 10: 25, 26).

Jesus said to her: Did I not tell you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?  Therefore they took the stone away. Now Jesus raised his eyes heavenward and said: Father, I thank you that you have heard me. True I know that you always hear me; but on account of the crowd standing around I spoke, in order that they might believe that you sent me forth. And when he had said this thing, He cried out with a loud voice: Lazarus, come on out !  (John 11: 40, 41,42, 43)

Because I have not spoken out of my own impulse, but the Father who sent me has given me a commandment as to what it tell and what to speak. Also, I know that his commandment means everlasting life. Therefore the things I speak, just as the Father has told me (Jesus), so I speak (them). (John 12: 49, 50)

From the above it is undoubtedly proved that what miracles had Jesus performed, he did not do them as per his own will or power but at the will & order of God.

When his disciples & people around him wanted to give him credits for the miracles he performed he clearly expressed that he was only a servant of God and doing those acts as per the will and order of God.

Most truly I say to you, a slave is not greater than his master, nor is one that is sent forth greater than the one that sent him. (John 13: 16)

Here we see that, Jesus was not ashamed to declare himself as a servant of God and also that a prophet is never greater than his master that is God. So considering Jesus as a part of the divinity is contrary to the ideas of true Christianity what Jesus propagated . In the time of Jesus and his direct followers no such ideas of-Jesus being the part of Divinity or an incarnation of God was flourished. It was an idea that was induced in the Christianity after at least 381 years of the birth of Jesus at the Constantinople Council (2 nd council) of the Christians, in which it was decided that the Lord Holy Ghost is derived from God the Father and united with Father & Son and glorified as a whole. And thus born the ideas of Trinity, which is quite contrary to the Monotheism preached by the prophet Jesus.

In Bible, Acts 4: 27 to 30, we can see that even after Jesus's disappearance / crucifixion the disciples considered him as a servant of God and not a part of God.

The God of Abraham and of Isaac and of Jacob, the God of our forefathers, has glorified his Servant, Jesus whom you, disowned before Pilate's face, when he had decided to release him.

Again in Acts 3: 26 we find, To you first God, after rising up his Servant , sent him forth to bliss you by turning each one away from your wicked deeds.

Lastly it can be said that prophet Jesus was neither a begotten son of God nor an incarnation of God. He was a man, a servant and a renowned messenger of Allah who, called mankind to-wards it's Creator to obey His orders for obtaining peace in this world and the world hereafter.

Allah says in the noble Qur'an, Al-Maidah (5):75

"The Messiah, son of Mary, was only a messenger, messengers (the like of whom) had passed away before him. And his mother was a saintly woman. They both used to eat (earthly) food. See, how we make the signs clear for them, then see how they are deluded!" The noble Qur'an, Al-Maidah (5):75.
